This is the third of three patents granted on the Chrysalis/Ridgewing guitar design/system between 1986 and 2001. The similarity of the three front page figures is confusing, but there are differences in details. Our own confusion is confusing enough to cause the second and third patents of the set of three to be posted here in the wrong order.

Here the three patents are shown in the correct chronological order, with subject matter:

  1. U.S. Patent # 4,573,391, issued March 4, 1986 for the original inflatable guitar concept.

  2. U.S. Patent # 5,945,614, issued August 31, 1999 for the grillwork/membrane acoustic guitar soundboard.

  3. U.S. Patent # 6,188,005 B1, issued February 13, 2001 for the modular guitar system.

Additional patent applications have been filed within the last couple of years to cover the most recent design elements. All Ridgewing guitar technology will be open sourced for anyone to use for making their own “flavor” of any of the major instrument components.
