The Ridgewing Guitar’s underbelly. It is useful to think of the Ridgewing’s body frames as being like picture frames.  They don’t do much themselves other than look pretty and support the art attached to them. In this case the “art” is a pair of carbon-fiber grills spray painted a nice shade of metallic blue.

There are twenty-eight M3 threaded brass inserts around the back of the frames serving as hard points for attaching anything a person might think of, decorative or functional. All attachments to the body are made from the back side using these threaded hard points, and arbitrary combinations of attachments can be stacked up as layers all sharing the same hard points but using longer M3 screws to attach the whole stack against the frames.

Grills are just one type of “insert” that can be mounted on the frames. Hangers are easy to make, easy to use, and they break the whole design space wide open. Here is a solid wood alternative to grills, mounted on such hangers.
