By putting all of the electronics in the bridge, the bridge becomes a single easily assembled and interchanged mechanical module like the other major Ridgewing instrument components.

Applying modular integration design principles to the bridge turns it into a self-contained “bridge system” capable of evolving easily and incrementally new forms and capabilities, like an independent organism in a guitar ecosystem.

The circuit board has a standard fixed mechanical layout of major components – Volume/Tone pots, rechargeable battery, phono jack, USB connector, momentary push-button switch with open areas for “custom” circuit design where arbitrary electronics can be designed in.

For example, vertical bus pins can be used to add one or more “buddy boards” with plenty of room for more components and enhanced capabilities in signal processing, communications and general-purpose programmable controls.

The bridge can also be modified mechanically to incorporate alternative magnetic pickups while maintaining its interchangeability with other bridge versions.
